This list is to show only Open, working repeaters in Southern California
and surrounding areas. This list is more accurate and is updated more often
than any published repeater guides you'll ever purchase. The league's guide is
10 years out of date when it comes to 6 meters. If you have any corrections,
please send them to the Email address at the bottom of this page and they will
be forwarded to Dan and George.

"E" stands for enhanced: this means that with a strong signal you do not need a PL
, if you are weak into the repeater and use PL. it will hold the squelch open allowing you
access.

CERT*** These repeaters are part of the "Communication Emergency ResponseTeam".
Repeaters are open, however CERT activity has priorty. Coverage area is primarily central
and northern California, and work is ongoing to link all 14 sites together. All CERT rptrs
operate on 51.82-, with different site access tones.

The 'CARS' network (California-Arizona Repeater System) operates in an open fashion,
but does not normally welcome remote bases from other bands. This is due mainly to
annoying touch-tones and other extraneous tones and 'voice tracks' emitted from the
majority of controllers in use on remotes. CARS was exclusively designed and built to
serve the six meter community, and all of its linking is done 'in-band', quite unlike most
linked networks found today. As a result, users must follow a couple of simple rules:

1. Do not key up until the repeater you are on has COMPLETELY DROPPED OUT. This
common bad habit is referred to as 'Quick-Keying'. Courtesy tones are insignificant. Most
'CARS' repeaters have timers tied directly to their keying lines, hence you MUST let
hangtimes drop completely in order to reset. This also allows a period for others to break-in
if needed.

2. When you do key your mic, wait before you begin speaking. This is due to the numerous
p/l decoders throughout the network that 'slow' the reaction time of the system. A safe rule
would be... key your mic and WAIT 2 SECONDS BEFORE YOU BEGIN TALKING. Otherwise,
the first few syllables you utter will be heard by only those on the same repeater as you.
This should be common practice when using ANY linked system, regardless of the band.

others who contributed to this list
